Antheraea mylitta, commonly known as the tasar or tussar silkworm, is native to India and Southeast Asia. While it is not native to America, it’s famous for producing the world-renowned, durable "Tasar silk," the Tasar Silkmoth (Antheraea mylitta) is a heavy-bodied, magnificent species. The adults showcase sexually dimorphic gorgeously, as the males have rich shades of copper, and brown, while the females features vibrant yellow, gold with a purple-pink band and accented by striking, transparent windowed eyespots on their wings.

While wild caterpillars feed heavily on Asan and Arjuna trees, you can successfully rear this species in America using widely available host plants:
  • Oak (Quercus spp.) – Widely accepted by most strains.
  • Castor (Ricinus communis)
  • Plum & Cherry (Prunus spp.)
  • Sumac (Rhus spp.)
  • Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua)
